| According to the United Church of Christ Toxic Wastes and Race at Twenty 1987-2007 report, environmental injustice in communities of people of color is as much or more prevalent today than twenty years ago. On behalf of Environmental Justice Networks and EJ organizations from across the United States, the principal authors of the national report, "Toxic Wastes and Race at 20", are inviting groups to sign on a letter to be directed to key elected officials, including key Congressional leaders, the presidential candidates and the Bush Administration to let them know that the findings in the 2007 report need to be addressed immediately. | Public Service Commission Proceeding Regarding an Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standard for Governor Spitzer’s 15 by 15 Plan |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Public Service Commission (PSC) held an overview forum on July 19-20, 2007 at the Albany Law School as part of the Energy Efficiency Portfolio Standard (EPS) proceeding. The proceeding is taking place to design the framework for Gov. Spitzer’s 15 by 15 Clean Energy Plan that will reduce New York’s growth in energy demand 15% by 2015 through efficiency and other programs. Dr. Robert Socolow, professor at Princeton University and co-director of Princeton’s Carbon Mitigation Initiative, opened the forum. Dr. Socolow is the co-author of the landmark study identifying stabilization wedges as an approach to greenhouse gas emission mitigation. The Workforce Development Institute and Sterling Planet, two founding organizations of the NYS Apollo Alliance, were active parties at the forum. NYS Apollo Chair Kelly Bennett presented on market-based instruments to support the EPS. Please click here to view the PSC proceedings. |
