The Training and Education Program of WDI serves the working families of New York State by directing funding for workplace education and training to programs that bring about job retention, promotion, transition retraining, and skills upgrading.

We provide funding to programs that help keep New York State’s workforce viable in an ever-changing economy.

Programs supported to date include:

  1. OSHA safety
  2. CDL license training
  3. Engineer license preparation
  4. Microsoft Office applications
  5. Asbestos handler training
  6. Welding certification
  7. HVAC training
  8. Civil Service exam preparation
  9. Professional training for teachers and assistant teachers
  10. Medication certification
  11. Workplace Spanish
  12. Auto CAD

To implement programs on the local level, centers are positioned throughout New York State and on Long Island. In NYC, The Consortium for Workers Education provides education and training, http://www.cwe.org/. Through a simple application process, organizations apply through their regional center for funding to provide training programs tailored to meet the needs of the region’s workers. Some centers also host computer-training courses, which are open to area residents.

Through this system, the Workforce Development Institute already has provided more than 50,000 hours of instructional training to 17,000 working men and women across New York State.
