WDI provides cutting edge job training on a statewide level. As the economy evolves employers require new skills, be it in green jobs or advanced manufacturing. New York can only be competitive nationally and globally with a workforce that has the needed skills. WDI is leading the way in reshaping and retooling the workforce with skills for today and tomorrow.

  • Throughout the Capital Region, Syracuse, and Long Island, WDI is training hundreds of workers in smart grid technology.

  • In the Mohawk Valley WDI provided funds to a Frankfort, NY machine shop to upgrade in ISO14000, making the company more competitive and upgrading the skills of their workers.

  • WDI has partnered with the Dutchess County Economic Development Corporation in the development of a new workforce development program focused on the healthcare sector.

  • In Rochester, WDI partnered with local Workforce Investment Boards to assist manufacturers in upgrading the skills of their workforce in order to utilize new technology and stay competitive.

  • In the North Country, WDI funded a “train the trainer” program for instructors at the Plattsburgh Aeronautical Institute, ensuring a work ready labor pool for a growing industry.

  • In Buffalo, Syracuse, and the Capital Region, WDI has partnered with NYSERDA to provide training to unemployed workers interested in a career in energy efficiency
