WDI established programs for persons with barriers to employment in cooperation with Community Colleges. All individuals have a right to work and WDI wants to break down  barriers that deny an individual the dignity of work and a sense of self-sufficiency. These efforts are guided by a strong sense of equity, justice and an appreciation of the full range of contributions each person brings to their community. We also know that families of the disabled face added economic stress. It is even greater when a loved one requires specialized vocational services.

WDI developed vocational programs to meet the need for these services in partnership with Adirondack, Niagara, and Schenectady Community Colleges.  Our Vocational Services program is designed to deliver job placements to individuals who are among the most in need. Our staff uses an innovative combination of services to achieve that goal, including enhanced assessment resources, person-centered employment planning, case management, coordination with area service providers, and a job match program that coordinates job seekers with employment opportunities. An after-placement follow-up is also part of the service to ensure smooth transitions.

Through strategic partnerships with community colleges, employers, state agencies and labor organizations, a Business Advisory Council (BAC) has been organized to provide specific, current, and competitive information on needed services and employment opportunities for eligible individuals.
