A strong economy demands highly skilled and experienced workers, in the right place at the right times. Entrepreneurs need innovative ideas, money, and facilities. They need employees who can bring projects into the marketplace. WDI focuses on emerging trends and new technologies, assessing their effect on incumbent and emerging workers. In doing so, WDI helps companies build the capacity they will need to succeed. Understanding the workforce, knowing where the jobs are, where they are likely to be in the future, and which skills will be needed to be successful is a core aspect of WDI's role in New York's economy and our support for working families.

WDI is under contract with the NYS Department of Labor (DOL) to provide Workforce Intelligence. We provide front-line information about job changes, reductions, and economic trends which affect the workforce. WDI also uses this information to guide program planning. WDI's focus on energy efficiency and the green sector demonstrates the potential to create and preserve thousands of good-paying jobs in the technical, scientific, service, and manufacturing sectors. Our dialogue with DOL, organized labor, and others is used to develop strategies in support of clean energy and green jobs. In this recession, our aim is to put people back to work, support those who are employed, and & find new career paths that will contribute to the well-being of working people and strengthen our economy.
